Overview

The customer is a leading retail and logistic solution provider who wants to enhance the consumer experience with unattended safe home delivery. An IoT-based home delivery smart-box system is developed to complete the delivery when the customer is away from home. Consumers can remotely authorize a delivery person for the delivery completion to the IoT-bases smart-box.

As online shopping is gaining more acceptance, there is a constant need for safe and on-time consignment delivery to consumers, especially high-value items. The physical presence of consumer becomes mandatory to avoid theft of delivered goods. The customer wanted to enhance their logistics handling software to facilitate a safe and interactive consignment delivery to end customers. The solution is to use a safe smart-box that leverages IoT technology to operate it remotely, involving both the customer and delivery personnel in real-time. It also allows pre-authenticated code to the delivery personnel and acknowledges the delivery to the customer in real-time.

Trenser served as the technology partner and provided the end-to-end software development for cloud, web, mobile, and embedded IoT devices. The cloud software deployment was managed using DevOps.

Project Outcome

  • Pilot installation of the solution in 50 homes was done in 6 months from the start of the project.
  • Customer satisfaction improved as consignments were delivered safely without the physical presence of consumers.
  • A mechanically redesigned variant of the smart-box is also used to leverage the exact solution for apartments and corporate customers.
